The Gap of Dunloe, Ring of Kerry - Co Kerry
A narrow mountain pass forged by glacial flows between the MacGillycuddy Reeks and Purple Mountain, the Gap of Dunloe is just one of the many picturesque sites you can see on the world-famous Ring of Kerry.
Following the coastal contours of the spectacular Iveragh Peninsula in the southwest of Ireland, the Ring is much more than just a simple driving route, with its raw beauty and stunning scenery sure to lift the spirits of even the most world-weary traveller.
Beginning in the bustling town of Killarney, the 179-kilometre-long route passes through quaint towns and charming villages, including the beautiful Kenmare, the lively market town of Caherciveen, and the entertaining Killorglin-famous for its lively Puck Fair, where a lucky goat is crowned “King Puck”.
Gaining worldwide recognition since appearing in 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, Skellig Michael, an island lying about 13km west of Bolus Head, has also become a very popular attraction, with daily eco and landing tours on offer.
