Glendalough - Co Wicklow
Part of Ireland’s Ancient East and located in the Wicklow Mountains National Park, the valley of Glendalough has been drawing in visitors for thousands of years, with its spectacular scenery, religious archaeology, and abundant wildlife.
Founded by Saint Kevin in the 6th century, this early Christian monastic settlement once thrived as one of Ireland’s great ecclesiastical foundations and schools of learning. The archaeologically important remains of which form the Monastic City, and include a round tower, stone churches and decorated crosses.
There is a visitor centre where you can learn more about this hallowed place, and a selection of walks and trails, which offer spectacular views of the two lakes and allow you to enjoy the unique spiritual atmosphere of the area.
